The Table Tennis Group of the Phoenix Club in Anaheim, California, is one of the 17 groups of this club founded by German immigrants in the 1960s. The table tennis group was founded in 1980 at the old club location on Douglas Road in Anaheim, now home of the Honda Center. We used to play in the “chicken house” with just 4 tables and not much room behind the tables.
Since the move in 1992 to our newly built facility on Anderson Rd. in Anaheim, just a little north of our former location, we play in the pavilion, a modern, air-conditioned building on a wooden floor, with plenty of parking. We have six Butterfly championship tables and sometimes we have an opportunity to set up 2 more tables in the dance studio to take care of overflow. All tables and equipment are owned by the group and we furnish 40 mm 3 star Nittaku balls to play. At the end of the year we play in 3 groups for the club championship. The Christmas party, is also used for the trophy presentation.
Although this group is part of a club trying to preserve the German heritage of the founders, we welcome players from all countries.
